August 2026
Miami Valley Chapter held a One-Day Workshop on August 22, 2026. Under the guidance of Associate First-term Master Beth Bowers-Kline, beginners and advanced students learned about and experienced flower materials indigenous to Ohio. Participants enjoyed arranging flowers together in a cohesive atmosphere.
August 2025
In 2025, Miami Valley Chapter hosted Asst. Professor Kamo from Japan as our annual seminar instructor. We learned One-Row Form and Realist Landscape. Maple branches you see in member's Realistic Landscape arrangements came from a wholesaler's yard. As it turned out, maple branches we ordered did not come in on the morning of the seminar. The wholesaler secured 20+ maple branches for us from his backyard! There is always drama when securing fresh flowers and branches.
Prof. Kamo resides in Nagoya, Japan. He teaches private lessons in Japanese and English. Prof. Kamo also teaches through ZOOM. His website is here.
September 2024
In September 2024, we held our annual seminar with Isa as the instructor. Isa resides in the Greater Cleveland area and holds an Associate 1st Term Master certificate.
We learned One-Row Form (Narabu Katachi) and Free Style (Jiyu-Hyogen).
For One-Row Form, we used sorghum, Leucadendron, Hypericum and variegated red twig dogwood shrub. Some people used sorghum for be Shu-shi (subject stem) and others used Leucadendron.
We used curly willow, roses and Philodendron Xanadu for our Free Style. Some of us used sorghum and other left over material from One-Row Form in addition to curly willow and roses.
July 2023
In September 2023, we hosted Instructor Hilla for our annual seminar. Hilla resides in the Greater Cleveland area and holds an Associate 1st Term Master certificate.
We learned Rising Form (Tateru Katachi) in a tall vase, One Row Form (Narabu Katachi), and Moribana, Slanting Style (Moribana Keisha-Kei).
